I am an international student at University of Cincinnati. I am from Vietnam, a beautiful tropical country with a lot of good food and a really interesting culture. I come to U.S to pursue a Bachelor Degree in Chemistry. My goal for the future is to be a Doctor and at the same time do research to find cures for diseases. I am currently a senior studying Chemistry with a focus on medicine.
Chemistry has been a big part of my life. Everything I started with and Everything I have now is all because of Chemistry. My journey to U.S started with a high school chemistry book that my mom gave me when I was 13. I went on to high school with a solid background of chemistry and luckily made a big strike in my senior year of high school. I received national merit for my performance in the National Chemistry Olympiad and made it into University of Cincinnati.
I come to UC with a mind set that I am going to be a chemist. That is why I tried really hard to get into a research program right in my freshmen year. I did research in Inorganic Chemistry with Dr.Connick and it was a great experience for me. After I finished my research with Dr.Connick, I realize that pure chemistry is not something I want to continue to work on in my life, that is why I decided to participate in Medical Research. I did research at Cincinnati Children's Hospital with Dr.Huang through Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) and I know right away that this is the field that I want to work in my future. I continued to work with Dr.Huang in my sophomore year. I came back to my hometown during summer to find inspiration for my junior year. After coming back from my summer vacation, I started doing research again with a new lab in children's hospital. I joined Dr.Khademi on a project to study about the mechanism of seizure and our main subject of study is the negative regulator of the mTOR pathway, PTEN. I hope with some exposure to a new field of medicine, I will be able to even further develop my interest in medicine.
I am a really open-minded person. I can pretty much do anything without thinking that whether it suit me or not. I like to try new things everyday and this personality keep me excited in everything I do. I did Martial Art once and it is really fun. I would love to dedicate my time for it if my schedule is not too heavy. I am also want to study different languages too. I don't actually have time for language classes so I learn it from my friends. I have some friends that usually teach me French and I am working with a lot of Chinese so I also pick up some random Chinese phrase from my Mentors. I loved business too. I am really interested in marketing because it is a great job to keep you being positive all the time. I even wanted to be a Recording Studio owner once in my high school but then I chose Chemistry to be my future. I am really open for opportunity so if you have anything fun to do, let me know and I will join you!
